Weight Loss and Diet Info For (and About) Our Teenagers

You see teenagers everywhere and the media keep telling them to change themselves. Be it in magazines, hosted on the internet, on TV in the hundreds of adverts, and of course in the movies. Advertising is a means to an end, and designed to make a person want to buy something or to go on a diet. This article will focus on the teenage diet.

Images in the media send a wrong message to our teens – they say you will be a lot happier if you are thin. They say it will make you beautiful and in control of your life. But remember, we all come in different shapes and sizes. Some are destined to be large, due to their very own DNA.

Many of our teenagers turn to diets as they feel the need to change their body and look to feel better about themselves. This puts them on a roller-coaster ride of weight loss and weight gain and can damage their health as their idea of weight loss goals are not suitable and very idealistic

Here are some facts about Teenagers and dieting:

1 in 2 females and 1 in 4 males will try dieting to try change the shape of their body.
1 in 3 teenage girls will try to diet even though they are at their ideal weight.
Teenagers who have a low self-esteem will be more likely to go on a diet than a teenager with a good self image.
A lot of teenagers are unhappy with their weight, feeling fat even though they are not.
They will diet due to feeling disconnected to their families and school.
They also feel that they have no control over their lives and dieting gives them the control they desire.

As teenagers you get a lot of peer pressure to have that perfectly thin body. You hear a lot about how bad it is to be fat. So the question you are asking yourself is: So whats so bad about dieting?

You are more likely to gain weight if you try dieting, as it leads you to feeling deprived of all the food you love and it may make you overeat.

A few notes about how you may feel when on diet:

1) hungry and preoccupied with food (thinking about it all the time)
2) distracted and tired
3) sad and unmotivated
4) cold and dizzy
5) deprived of foods you enjoy

Skipping meals, using weight loss pills, going on a “crash” diet, vomiting after eating, and using laxatives can be extremely dangerous to your health. Teenagers are still growing, and the right amount of nutrients are needed to stay healthy. So eliminating certain food groups, and taking in too little calories in the developing years, can have a very negative effect on the teenager.

By being physically active and eating well you will gain a better feeling about yourself. So it is important to be aware of what you eat without obsessing over it.

Some important tips for healthy eating:

1) Try eating a wide variety of healthy foods every day.
2) Make sure you eat breakfast every day.
3) Try eating when you are hungry, and ensure you stop when you are full.
4) Ensure you eat all four food groups every day.
5) Drink water rather than soft drinks or juice.
6) Ensure you choose foods that are high in fiber (like bran, wheat and rye). Cereal bars are also good.
7) When eating out, stop once you are full (fast food/restaurant portions are bigger than most people need).
8) Using food to make yourself feel better when you are bored, sad or upset is a definite NO!

Physical activity is a vital part of staying healthy, and feeling good about yourself. So try to spend time everyday doing something active that you enjoy, especially with the people you love.

While teenagers are notorious for their love of junk food and unusual eating habits, it is important that they eat a proper diet. A healthy diet for teenagers can assist them in doing better in school and promote optimal physical development as their bodies grow and mature.

A healthy diet for teenagers starts with consuming the proper amount of calories. On average, a teen girl needs between 1,800 and 2,100 calories each day, while a teen boy needs between 2,200 and 2,700 calories to meet his energy needs. Eating too many calories can lead to obesity and associated complications, while eating too few can leave teens lacking energy and facing other health problems. This is meant to be a guideline, and may vary for each individual. Teenagers may need to vary their caloric intake based on their specific needs.

Ultimately, a healthy diet for teenagers should include fresh fruits and vegetables as a foundation. For optimal nutrition, a teenager should aim for at least 3 to 5 servings of such foods each day. Additionally, variety is important with fruits and vegetables. A good rule to follow is to eat a wide variety of colors. Some great choices include red and orange peppers, broccoli, red, blue, and black berries, and citrus fruits, which are loaded with Vitamin C.

Also when considering a healthy diet for teenagers, it is important for teens to get enough protein, most especially among boys, who may want to build muscle mass. The best way to get protein is for teenagers to eat roughly two servings of meat, eggs, nuts, soy products, or high-protein dairy each day. Teenagers also need 6 to 11 servings of carbohydrates every day. However, many teens actually eat too many carbohydrates. A serving can be as small as 1 slice of bread or half a cup of cooked pasta.

While most people think fats are bad, a healthy diet for teenagers actually needs some fats as part of their diet. However, not all fats are created equal. Teens should avoid dangerous trans fats and saturated fat. Instead, they should choose the healthy fats found in nuts, oils, and fish. These fats promote proper brain function and help keep joints and ligaments healthy.

When it comes to vitamins and minerals, calcium is one of the most important components of a healthy diet for teenagers. During the teenage years, bones complete growing and reach their final adult form. Calcium promotes strong, dense, healthy bones that are protected from fractures and breaks. In addition to getting calcium from dairy, this important nutrient can also be found in nuts like almonds as well as dark green leafy vegetables. Ideally, 2 to 3 servings daily of such calcium rich foods should be part of a teenager’s diet. In addition to calcium, iron is also important to teens, most especially girls. The best sources of iron are red meat, beans, eggs, and certain dried fruit.

Ultimately, teenagers should try to eat as healthy as possible without sacrificing the fun outings they enjoy. It is okay to have some junk food, as long as teens do not go crazy. Also, keep in mind that sometimes efforts to eat healthy turn into eating disorders. So, it is important for parents to be aware of changes in their teenager’s eating choices and behaviors.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – What Every Parents Needs to Know About Teenage Diet Plans

If you have an overweight or obese teenager, you are certainly not alone. Nearly 9% of our youth ages 6-19 are obese. That’s over 9 million kids in the United States! We’ve heard this statistic over and over again and still, we aren’t quite sure how to tackle it even though we know the problems behind it. Finding workable teenage diet plans amidst all the problems behind obesity is a difficult task.

Healthy teenage diet plans for weight loss need to consist of the following things:

1. Positive motivation that involves respect for the teen’s feelings and an understanding of their eating issues and how this affects their choices.

2. A healthy eating plan that helps the teenager not only lose weight healthfully, but teaches the teenager how to eat healthfully for life.

3. An exercise plan that not only burns calories and helps tone muscle, but is something that the teenager can continue to do on their own and will have a desire to do so.

In speaking of positive motivation, I can’t tell you how important this piece is in developing teenage diet plans that work. So often, I see parents use shame or guilt to try to motivate their teen. Being overweight or obese has a stigma attached to it. Your child faces this everyday and is well aware. Don’t let his or her home become yet another place to be judged for their weight problems!

Understanding their eating issues is also important. Many of us overeat when we are feeling down. We do this because we were sort of taught this as youngsters. Food was often a reward and we’ve probably passed that on to our children. “You were so good today. Here’s the ice cream cone I promised you.” Or, a classic is to give a treat whenever one of your children has a scraped knee. It shuts off the tears, but it also promotes a sense of instant gratification that they will continue to use whether the pain is a physical hurt or emotional hurt. Once you help your teen make the switch from instant gratification to lasting gratification fueled by positive change and facing problems head on, he or she will find healthy teenage diet plans to be much easier to tackle.

Along the lines of quick fixes, it is important to remember that healthy teenage diet plans allow for long-term, steady weight loss. A safe amount of weight to lose is anywhere from 1-3 pounds per week. When your teen begins a diet plan, weight loss may be faster in the very beginning. This is normal. It can be frustrating to all of a sudden see that weight loss stabilize to a more reasonable 1-3 pounds per week. Help your teen to stay the course by explaining or having their dietician or physician explain (always sounds better coming from someone other than a parent!) how slow, steady weight loss leads to lasting weight loss for life. And speaking of the rest of their lives, make sure to include a variety of foods from every food group but especially a lot of veggies, some fruit and lean protein sources. When choosing carbohydrates (important as well), help your teen to choose the right ones by buying whole grain, high fiber products instead of white bread or refined sugars.

And last, but not least, be creative in coming up with an exercise routine that will complement healthy teenage diet plans for weight loss. Exercise needs to be enjoyed by your teenager or it will forever be a battle to get he or she actually doing it on a regular basis. What are your teens likes and dislikes? What kind of activities do they enjoy? Think outside the box. If your teenager likes the outdoors but doesn’t enjoy running, how about a regular daily walk at a botanical garden or other outdoor facility? Or shopping? Mall walk in the morning with your teenager. Maybe talk with some other parents and get a group together that could benefit from playing a regular game of flag football at the park a few times a week or more. By showing your teenager how fun and enjoyable exercise can be, you are helping him or her develop a daily habit that will not only complement healthy teenage diet plans, but will stay with them for life!

How To Find The Best Teenage Diet Plan And Lose Weight In No Time

A teenage diet plan can state a risk for the teenager’s health, especially when a certain medical condition is the case. It is really crucial, because of this fact, that you consult with your family doctor before you begin with such a plan. Nearly all the time your doctor will be against the teenage diet plan, because in most cases it is unnecessary.

Teens are at a vulnerable stage and they are taking peer pressure very seriously. They worry about their appearance which can cause those who do not have a weight problem to take drastic measures. Skipping meals is not the answer.

Consistent junk food consumption will keep you away from experiencing the rewards of a teenage diet plan. Instead, you will be at risk of developing weight-related health problems that include diabetes and heart disease.

Don’ forget that weighing a little more is normal for your age. Most folks are losing the extra weight naturally while they grow. And – not one person is the same as the other. What might be a good weight for someone else might not be right for you. You have to consider your bone size, your height, and what is a normal weight for your family.

Just by keeping away from junk food, which includes nearly no nutrients and eating nutritious meals you will see a benefit. In case you are overweight, you can find a good teenage diet plan below. Follow it and it will help you reduce the excessive weight.

A necessary part of a good teenage diet plan is exercise. Sometimes, this is enough. It assists the body in digesting the food you are eating. It builds muscle which naturally burns calories. With regular exercise you are burning energy that would turn into fat cells otherwise.

We’ve already talked about avoiding fast foods and any high carbohydrate and sugar-based foods such as candy bars, potato chips and sodas. There is very limited nutritional value in them. When you eat these foods your body can easily digest them and turn them into unhealthy fat, that can clog up your blood vessels and arteries.

It’s best to create your teenage diet plan with your doctor’s or parent’s help, especially if you are extra heavy. Refer to healthy eating books and magazines for advice and ideas. Putting together a teenage diet plan that will get you results is relatively easy.

Fruits and vegetables: Eating lots of fresh vegetables and fruits will make sure you are getting the natural minerals and vitamins you need. Some vegetables, like green beans, will actually help you with losing weight. Always take some fruits and/or vegetables with you for a healthy snack.

Lean meats: Lean meat needs more energy to digest, so eating small portions of it can be helpful in losing weight. Don’t eat much red meat though, it has more fat then the other meats and your body needs a lot of time to break it down. Choose white meats or seafood instead. Only eat a small amount of meat daily.

Milk and cheese: Your body needs a lot of calcium and these 2 foods supply it. Skim milk contains less fat then 100% milk, but still has all the goodness in it. Eating cheese is boosting your metabolism, it can actually aid you to get rid of the extra weight.

Water: Water is very important, drink lots of water – especially during exercise. Water is about the only thing that is guaranteed non-fattening.

Instead of eating the usual large three meals daily, try switching to 5-6 small portions daily. This will keep your body’s metabolism working and prevent the food from turning to fat.

Don’t forget – the best teenage diet plan always includes that you exercise a lot and eat less more often.

Overweight? Feeling ugly because of this? Lose that excessive weight and get the amazing body you ever wanted. Start with your teenage diet plan today.

Some Diet Plans For Overweight Teenage Boys

Category : Parenting Tips

Some Diet Plans For Overweight Teenage Boys

If you have ever been looking for diet plans for overweight teenage boys, then you are in luck. Many teenage boys are overweight, even some of the more active ones. From football players to baseball players, overweight teenage boys can be found doing all sorts of different things. It does not matter what race they are or what types of activities they do or what all they eat for supper. Overweight teenage boys can be found from all walks of life.

Many have a stereotypical idea that all overweight teenage boys indulge in video games for hours upon end and simply do not get the proper exercise that is required in order to help maintain a healthy body weight. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Even in teenage boys that participate in active sports, some will find themselves still being overweight. Whether they play tennis, golf, baseball, or chess, these overweight teenage boys are found in each and every niche.

Finding the right diet plans for overweight teenage boys can be extremely difficult. Even if you find the right exercise plan for the particular teenager, it might simply not be enough. One might try to resort to other methods, such as diet pills, but this is not always the best way to go. Sometimes the answer can be much  simpler than to resort to buying diet pills. Sometimes, the answer is as simple as taking a combination of actions in order to help that teenager lose weight.

The first step is to ensure that the teenager is on a good, healthy diet. Remember that teenagers are always growing, and so they need more energy than you might think. This can make it hard to determine just how much is too much, but with time and patience, and a little luck, you can usually determine what is just right for your specific teenager. Not only should you pay attention to how much is in the diet, but you must also pay attention to what is in the diet. Growing teenagers need a wide variety of nutrients. Vitamin and other dietary supplements can help to ensure that your teenager is getting all of the vitamins and nutrients he needs, though you cannot depend entirely on them.

After having determined the right diet for your teenager, try to get him on an exercise plan that helps to ensure that he is active. If he is already involved in active sports, then this, combined with his new healthy diet, should help to ensure that your teenager begins to lose weight. It can be truly amazing how much of a difference dieting and exercise when combined can make in a teenage boy’s life, or in the lives of others. He will have more energy and be more confident in himself and his abilities. Diet plans for overweight teenage boys can be the perfect way to motivate your teenager and help him feel good about himself.
